Fund the evidence, not another lobby.

The number that decides this argument — what compliance actually costs a small seller — does not exist yet, because collecting it is nobody's paid job. This is where it gets funded.

The Observatory

Collecting real quotes from small sellers, stripping anything identifying, and publishing the median cost per €1,000 of revenue. The evidence the schemes are legally required not to impose a disproportionate burden on.

Where it goes

The desks and the documents

Keeping twenty-seven country desks dated and re-checked, answering consultations in full and in public, and writing the Threshold Paper that puts the evidence in front of the people who can act on it.

Free ways to help

Money is the last resort here. Three things help more, and cost nothing.

Send one quote
One real provider quote — country, fee, scope, volume band — is a row in the only dataset of its kind. Post it in #quotes-and-costs on the Discord.
Keep a desk
If you ship to a country and know its register, you can make that desk better than we can. Twenty-seven are open.
Be counted
Join the founding list and bring one other seller. The negotiating position is the number of shops behind it.
About paid membership. There isn't one today. Being on the founding list is free and stays free; if a paid tier for the negotiation service is introduced later, the founding list hears it first and nobody is moved onto it automatically.

Grants and institutions

If you fund research, consumer protection or small-business representation and want the output to be open, this is a cheap way to get a dataset that currently does not exist anywhere. Write to hello@kontorbund.com. Every grant we accept is listed publicly with its amount and its funder.

Our rules for money

No money from providers of compliance services, no commissions, no paid rankings, no advertising. The full list is on the Transparency page; the accounts will be on it too. And the data we collect from members is governed by the Privacy page — never sold, never shared.
